Our Impact

Our Unwavering Commitment in Action:  We combine rapid disaster response and specialized long-term support with an impartial, needs-based commitment to our community.

Key Interventions & Specialized Response

Brihadeeswarar Temple Fire Support (1997): Provided immediate first aid, casualty transport, and established sustained blood donation camps to support hospitals during the crisis of cultural and human significance.

Kumbakonam School Fire Accident (2004): Long-Term Psychosocial Support (PSP) Following the profound tragedy of the Kumbakonam school fire, the IRCS Thanjavur Branch recognized the need for sustained, specialized emotional recovery that extended far beyond immediate crisis aid. Our response established a specialized, multi-year Psychosocial Support (PSP) program. Key components of this initiative included:

  • Targeted Counseling: Providing individual and group counseling sessions for bereaved families, survivors struggling with trauma, and affected teachers.
  • Community Healing: Organizing community-based therapeutic activities and resilience-building workshops to help the neighborhood process collective grief.
  • Capacity Building: Training local volunteers in Psychological First Aid (PFA) to ensure long-term support networks remained active within the community, fostering enduring recovery and resilience against future trauma. This comprehensive intervention demonstrates our commitment to healing the unseen wounds of disaster.

Mahamaham Services (2016): Safety for Millions: Deploying 1,000+ Volunteers for the Mahamaham Festival, setting up numerous First Aid posts and providing emergency medical assistance to pilgrims.

Kalimedu Temple Chariot Accident Support (2022): Immediate deployment of emergency response vehicles, comprehensive casualty management, and crucial psychosocial support (PSP) to victims’ families at the site and in the aftermath.

Cyclone Vardah Response (2016): Provided significant regional support, assisting in the logistics and transportation of relief supplies, and deploying specialized First Aid and medical teams to severely hit neighboring districts.

Gaja Cyclone Response (2018): Among the first responders, focused heavily on search and rescue support, debris clearance, and the distribution of essential supplies (tarpaulins, kitchen sets) to thousands of affected families.

Cyclone Nivar Response (2020): Executed comprehensive pre-disaster preparedness activities, ensured timely evacuation, and focused on post-cyclone sanitation and public health monitoring.

Thoothukudi Flood Rescue Services (2023): Deployed experienced volunteers for specialized boat-based rescue operations, working with state agencies, and establishing mobile emergency medical posts for immediate casualty stabilization.

Public Health & Humanitarian Initiatives
